I made a Profile Documentary

The plan was to make a Profile documentary about my brother, who is a games memorabilia collector. He has a games room, which is an ideal location for this as he has on display numerous parts of his collection. He also has family games night and plays online with friends. I asked him if he was game, and he said yes.

This was the initial plan and shot list. The picture on the right is how I wanted the interview to look. It also contains photos of how I wanted to pan for the B-Roll. The image on the left shows an overhead of how I wanted to position things, Camera, etc, the only thing that changed was the back light which was put behind my brother on the left and was placed on a shelf, it gave a better look.

This page also contains a gear list of things I actually ended up using, except the LED lights were smaller versions of the ones I had initially wanted as I had to travel.

The stuff I had to travel with, it was awkward, but it was worth it.

Late trains meant push backs on the timeframe meaning the interview had to be recorded in the morning before I came back home. I was also ill in the morning to add to an increasing list of hardships. However, I got the majority of the B-roll in the evening, and the interview went fine except I forgot to push record on the Zoom recorder so had to do the whole interview again, and I forgot to take some 'on set' photos due to being ill, but here is a little compilation photo of some of the set.

Overall the experience was excellent, besides the set backs. The final product is something I am happy with and proud of. I really enjoyed the editing process

I am developing my editing skills currently, as it is something I would like to pursue in my spare time. It could be a bit more organised however, this work flow worked for me at the time.

Upon reflection in the edit suite I think asking more questions reacting to what my brother actually said may have helped add some depth and could have fleshed the piece out a bit more.
