Creating an 8 page overview fanzine for the popular ARPG Free to play game Path of Exile, here are the steps I took.
Firstly I planned out the content of each page, what I would like to place where and organise the flow of the booklet. Starting with a quick intro of relevant buzz words relating to the game and progressing through characters and gameplay with a part about the team behind it with their contact information and website.
Using a crafting plan I was able to create an A3 physical copy of concept for the booklet which would fold into an 8 page Fanzine. This was used to refine layouts and look at the wording and flow of the zine.
Images were selected to use if a physical finished copy would be completed. Although I have not made a final physical copy using these images, it helped with creating the final draft in Photoshop as it gave me a good idea of the images that should be used for the fanzine, such as selected background images of developer art, or the in game screen shots. It also helped with finalising which words will be used on the page whilst making this.
This is the final fanzine, which is in A3 format (297mm x 420mm). It was created by have a page set in A3 format and the individual pages where created in A6 (105mm x 148mm) format. I created each page individually then exported as PNG and then uploaded to the A3 page and positioned in the correct place and rotation. This is ready to print to be a physical copy.
Path Of Exile is an immensely deep and jam packed game I think it would be near impossible to explain a lot of the content in only 8 one sided A6 pages, however as a general overview of an action looter I don't think it's that bad. the choice to not add much colour was due to the nature of the game as it can be pretty brutal. I chose the font 'Fontin' as that is the same font that is used in Path of Exile, as explained in a Reddit post by one of GGG's heads. A bit more up to date images of the people behind the game would also have been a good idea.
